Design Pro-Bono

he, he…yeah the name sounds funny, but designing pro-bono is pretty serious stuff. We have been asked to research and find a famous designer who has done some designing work pro-bono and pick apart the process from inception to final product. Naturally, I chose The Art Dump’s creative director Andy Jenkins and the work he did with Product (Red). Product (Red) is all about promoting the survival of Aids sufferers in Africa by supplying them with the proper medicine they need to survive. Each product that Product (Red) creates/collaborates on; its funds go directly towards the cause. Product (Red) and Girl Skateboards hooked up over the summer and marketed a couple decks that were, in my opinion, real hot shit. I am proud to have owned, thrashed, and saved both of them…

48 hour film competition

So a few weeks ago, my friend Gilmore called me and asked for my help with the 48 hour film competition here in Denver. I showed up at Sorryface Productions headquarters the next day and landed a lead role in their project. It was a great experience involving improv, timely production, and free lunch and dinner. Thanks to Chris, Angela, Mark, Brad, and Mike. Watch the movie here:

Gettin’ posty up in here

So I stumbled across this collabo website this afternoon.

http://www.12ozprophet.com/

12ozprophet is basically an abandoned graffiti zine that was resurrected into an on-line display. It features a handful of graffiti and other urban artists from all over the world. Photography, illustrations, painting etc… Their headquarters are in NYC, not surprisingly. I’m down with that. I just hope these urban artists don’t spend every day chilling in Williamsburg drinking Stella and riding fixies. I’ll let their updates do the talking. Speaking of Williamsburg, I found myself out there last summer with Brian Delevie; he taught me a rather quick and harsh lesson in darts. I also peed in an alley that night.

I seems that the big thing in the design community these days is the collaboration project. Nike SB, Girl Skateboards, Alien Workshop, etc… I like most of the projects but i can’t help but wonder if the well is running dry, know what i mean?

Back to school, skateboarding and design

The final semester begins. Right now i’m sitting in a stuffy computer lab updating the blog. I guess the idea is to stay connected and meet new people in the design field. Should be fun…

I’ve been researching design firms that i find most interesting, mostly involved in the skateboarding community. The video above is from The Art Dump, the design department at Girl Skateboards. I have bought, ridden, and broken both (RED) boards over the summer. I’m saving them because this is the first time since i was 12 that I actually cared about a board graphic.
